FFLO Superfluids in 2D Spin-Orbit Coupled Fermi Gases
We show that the combination of spin-orbit coupling and in-plane Zeeman field in a two-dimensional degenerate Fermi gas can lead to a larger parameter region for Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) phases than that using spin-imbalanced Fermi gases. The resulting FFLO superfluids are also more stable due to the enhanced energy difference between FFLO and conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieff...
متن کاملBCS-BEC crossover and topological phase transition in 3D spin-orbit coupled degenerate Fermi gases.
We investigate the BCS-BEC crossover in three-dimensional degenerate Fermi gases in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and Zeeman field. We show that the superfluid order parameter destroyed by a large Zeeman field can be restored by the SOC. With increasing strengths of the Zeeman field, there is a series of topological quantum phase transitions from a nontopological superfluid state wi...
متن کاملEvolution from BCS to BEC superfluidity in p-wave Fermi gases.
We consider the evolution of superfluid properties of a three-dimensional p-wave Fermi gas from a weak coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) to strong coupling Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) limit as a function of scattering volume. At zero temperature, we show that a quantum phase transition occurs for p-wave systems, unlike the s-wave case where the BCS to BEC evolution is just a crossov...
متن کاملBroad versus narrow Fano - Feshbach resonances in the BCS - BEC crossover with trapped Fermi atoms
– With reference to the broad and narrow Fano-Feshbach resonances of 6 Li at about 822G and 543G, we show that for the broad resonance a molecular coupled-channel calculation can be mapped with excellent accuracy onto an effective single-channel problem with a contact interaction. This occurs for a wide enough range of the magnetic field, that the full BCS-BEC crossover can be realized with a t...
متن کاملExtracting the condensate density from projection experiments with Fermi gases.
A debated issue in the physics of the BCS-BEC crossover with trapped Fermi atoms is to identify characteristic properties of the superfluid phase. Recently, a condensate fraction was measured on the BCS side of the crossover by sweeping the system in a fast (nonadiabatic) way from the BCS to the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) sides, thus "projecting" the initial many-body state onto a molecul...
